Doors to Our World

Doors are fun!

During my time abroad, I was infatuated with the difference in architecture between European countries and the U.S. I found my eye drawn to the vibrant colors of the buildings, some of which were covered in intricate mosaic tiles from roof to street. Above all else, the entryways to these buildings are what intrigued me the most. I thought back to the States and how every door, more or less, looks the same. There is little to no personality to the classic wood slab that covers these entryways. Meanwhile, in Europe I saw individuality at every house. No two doors were the same and it was easy to tell that these gates had been personalized and curated to the specific taste of their keepers. With the houses being so close together I was amazed that I never saw two doors of the same color or size next to each other. The outside of these buildings caused me to speculate on those inside, what they wore, what they ate, what their personalities were like, etc. And the doors were the only barrier to me finding these things out.
